Meet your Favorite Writing Coach

Heather 'Byrd' is an international award-winning poet and an ancestrally-guided catalyst of voice, story, and badassery.

As the CEO of Byrd's World, she's on a divine mission to empower individuals, especially women of color to write and publish their brilliance so they can turn their message into a movement. Byrd is the queen of quirky and the author of Mahogany: A Love Letter To Black . Byrd’s accomplishments extend far and wide, including being celebrated in numerous festivals and publications including The Chicago Theatre Festival and the St. Louis Fringe with HERstory of HIStory and inHERitance: the stories we carry . Her work has also a contributor in Cagibi, Expressions of Englewood, Hope Ignited: Stories of Hope By Women For Women , and Trouble The Waters: Tales from the Deep Blue - a finalist for the World Fantasy Award and Locus Award. Most recently, she won the 2022 International Anthem Award in diversity, equity, and inclusion for her editorial and curation on the “I See You” issue of the Cornell Report alongside Google, HBO Max, BBC, National Geographic, Netflix, and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Who is the Virtual Open House for?

This experience is designed for individuals who feel called to write whether you’re just beginning to explore your voice, sitting on an idea for a book, or already drafting your manuscript. You do not need to identify as a "writer" to belong here.

Do I need to have a finished book or manuscript?

No. You are welcome exactly where you are. The Open House is centered on inspiration, connection, and helping you see what’s possible for your story, whether you have a few journal entries or a full draft.

How long is the session and where does it take place?

The Byrd's World Publishing Virtual Open House is a live 90-minute online experience hosted via Zoom. Once you RSVP, you’ll receive the link and all access details in your inbox. Make sure to search [email protected] in case the email was sent to spam.

Will there be a replay if I can’t attend live?

No. This experience is unique to the people in the room so I encourage you to show up when you register so you can fully experience the energy, community, and writing. We understand things happen so if you miss your session, we host sessions every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month.

What should I bring to the session?

Bring something to write with (a notebook and pen), an open mind, and a willingness to be honest on the page. You do not need to prepare anything in advance.
